Garbage patches are piles of waste on oceans and seas that are mainly formed from marine debris or, to be specific, plastic wastes. More than 5.25 trillion pieces of trash pollute our oceans, and The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an enormous pile of plastic waste floating in the oceans. It is located between California and Hawaii and is surrounded by The North Pacific Subtropical Gyre, which has 20 million square kilometers.

As mentioned before, plastic is the primary material of marine debris. Are we aware of how dangerous plastic waste can be for the environment? Plastic contains different materials that are considered hazardous. If released in our waters, they will affect the animals, waters, humans, and generally the whole ecosystem. Animals will consume hazardous plastic materials and end up being poisoned. After the animals are harmed, then comes human harm. Moreover, humans will be affected as much as animals because they will eat hazardous sea products.

Rubbish patch in oceans is resourced from different channels. Unfortunately, gyres are making the Patch grow. As we mentioned before, plastics have the lead on the piled wastes. They can not be treated naturally, so their presence and effects can last for a long time. We should look for ways to avoid the tremendous damage that plastic waste will cause the ocean and our lives due to the effects mentioned above.
The best approach is to decrease our plastic usage and start recycling. Humans are the cause of this degradation in the oceans. Creating a sustainable recycling process can benefit the environment in the long run, but Recycling business owners should adopt smart waste management systems now. The collection part is critical. Moreover, if there are complications during the collection operations, the uncollected waste will be out in nature. With an efficient fleet management system, all plastic and waste collection systems can be under control.
The garbage island pacific is expanding day by day. Some nonprofit organizations and NGOs are trying to raise awareness of the situation. The plastic cleanup in ocean techniques is not very practical because many waste pieces are tiny (some can’t be seen with our eyes). The nets used for the wastes might catch sea creatures and harm their species.
